About the artist

Mya Harlan is a nomadic singer/songwriter currently living in the middle of the Arizona Desert. She is known for her emotionally charged and edgy lyrics and using lyrical layering to present an etheric view of difficult human experiences. Her alt pop/indie vibe is meshed with a vocally nostalgic twist often compared to various artists spanning many decades from icons like Billie Holliday, Peggy Lee, Lana Del Rey, and Lorde.

 

As a child, she was always performing through her involvement in singing, songwriting, dance and musical theater. While music was always at the center of it, this experience gave her a deep appreciation and love for mixing movement and visuals with music to amplify the story being told.

She started writing songs more seriously at the age of 15 after being forced to quit dance and performing. Music became her lifeline and sense of freedom with the notion that it was the one thing that could never be taken away. However, she still struggled to find comfort in performing publicly. 

 

This led her to start releasing music under the stage name SVAHA as a way to maintain her privacy and introverted tendencies. After some time, and many transformative experiences, she decided those walls were only holding her back from expressing the true vulnerability her music represents. She started performing under her real name towards the end of 2022.

As a traveling independent artist she has performed in New York City NY, Seattle WA, St. Louis MO, Austin TX, Tulum Mexico, and a small town in New Jersey. Mya has also had the honor of being featured on several Indie 101.5 radio rotations and voted #1 song for February's Indie Vibin' W/ Jae Top 20 countdown. She is currently working on her next album coming out spring/summer 2024.
